First Days in Colorado

Well, the flight was fun.  Matthew basically refused to eat lunch and only slept for about 20 minutes.

Not such a great 2 hour car ride up the mountain either.

But then, we made it!  Matthew was so excited to crawl all over the house, exploring everything and playing with new toys.

We were welcomed home from the grocery store by a herd of elk on the property.  Really fun.  There was one male with huge antlers that bugled.  Matthew's response: legs kicking and "bugling" (i.e. screaming) back!

Mike celebrated this by eating elk and wild boar the following night.

Yesterday, we planned to go on a hike at either Bear Lake or Sprague Lake (two of our favorites) although the road was closed for construction.  We decided to drive up Trail Ridge Road which takes you as high as you can go via car in Rocky Mountain National Park.  We ended up stopping short of the top, at 11,000 ft above sea level because we wanted to go for a hike and had had enough of the winding road with windy conditions and no side rails.  Below is a picture for the top of the tundra.

And this is how we ended the night:
