Month 5 in Review: The No Mores

Mike and I have been reflecting on the many things that have come to a stop in this last month.  It's weird and sad and just plain anti-climatic that some of the wonderful things you do every day or all day suddenly one day just come to a total halt.  And there's no ceremony.  So here's our "ceremony" to the all the things that have ceased this month.

5. No more mesh, newborn bathtub. We're in a toddler tub now. This was Daddy/Son time but now it takes two to bathe him on the counter.

4. No more marching and singing...Doo doo doo do, doo doo doo do, Matthew, Matthew, Daddy loves you.  Doo doo doo do, doo doo doo do, Matthew, Matthew, Mommy loves you.

3. No more rocking him or holding him while sleeping.

2. We used to place the car seat in the stroller via an adapter.  Now he sits in it on his own.

Awww...he's holding Sophie
1. And no more avocado.

4 Month Review

10. Matthew LOVES 8 Little Monkeys jumping on the bed!  Sing it anytime, anyday and more than likely you will see this:

9. The only thing that he might like better than a pacifier are his fingers.

8. He has many smiles...this is one of our favorites!

7. We started to put Matthew on his stomach when sleeping for a number of reasons.  He is now sleeping 9-11 hours at a time and a total of 12-13.  And you can capture cute pictures like this one.

6. Matthew is definitely most content and happy when we are both home and able to spend quality time with him, particularly on the weekends.

5. Matthew's vocal cords are definitely in working order.

4. Matthew is wearing a baseball uniform in this one.  Mike's been teaching our Little Leaguer pitches such as cutters already using his baseball rattle.

3. Matthew received an IU jersey from our friend Shane.  He wears IU clothing for every game that we watch as a family.

2. He loves playing with his tongue and when others make noises with their tongues.

1. At his 4 month check-up he was 26 3/4 inches (95th percentile) and 14 pounds, 14 ounces (50th percentile).  Healthy and right on track!

February Visit from Grammy and Grandpa Schwartz

Mike and I were really excited about the second to last weekend in February because it was when Mike's parents were going to be in town to spend quality time with Matthew while we spent time just the two of us in the city.  However, we were also quite nervous because it was taking Matthew an hour to be put to sleep at night, he had not spent much time with Mike's parents, and he had never had a bottle before bed.  Don't get me wrong, Matthew is a champion eater, but I don't know how much he drinks before bed and how long this influences how long he sleeps.  Another lesson in worry being pointless...the weekend went great for all of us!  Here are some of the wonderful pictures of Matthew taken by Susan:

He LOVES this monkey!
On Saturday, Susan, Geoff, and Matthew came to the city to eat lunch with us and Mike's cousin Lauren.  Afterwards, we had a mini photo shoot at the hotel.

And on that Sunday, Matthew rolled over while we were all watching!!!  It was really fun to all be able to see it together.  It took a total of about 10 minutes, but it was worth it.  He had done this once before when he was 2 1/2 months but we're pretty sure that was just gravity.

And another milestone occured that Sunday.  Matthew had his first "solid" meal.  They suggested making it pretty soupy to gradually get him accustomed to the new deal, but it was still rice cereal.

Mmmmm!!!!
But enough about Matthew, geez.  Why aren't we talking more about me?  Come on.  Of course I'm not serious.  Mike and I stayed at The Drake.  Seriously, best beds and pillows.  It was Chicago Restaurant Week so we went to Cafe de Architectes the first night where we tried parsnip ice cream, although I think they were lying because it was vanilla.  The second night we went to Don Shula's steakhouse and on our way we ran into our friends Matt and Lindsey, which was a fun coincidence.  It was incredible to have time for just us.  To be us again.  We were missing that.  But now that "cry it out" is over and done with (he has yet to cry for more than a couple of minutes at night or naptime), we are able to have wonderful time with our son and just with each other.  Ahhh, life is so good.  We feel overwhelmingly blessed by God.  Thank you.

hi i'm matthew and this is my cousin titus

hi i'm matthew.  my friend milklady has a brother named uncle pastor.  uncle pastor is married to aunt milklady.  they live with someone named titus who is smaller than me.  everytime i am with titus shouty milklady uncle pastor and aunt milklady keep making me lay down next to him or sit next to him.  then they all stare at us.  i like titus he is my best friend.  i also like my new friend johnny collins he is my best friend too.  also, i like ezra funk and violet funk.  they are my best friends.

this is a picture of me meeting my best friend titus:

this is me holding titus's hand.  everyone laughs and says we are cute.  shouty says it is not okay for us to keep holding hands starting in 2018.  i don't know what 2018 is.  i do know it is more fun to hold titus' hand than it is to play with the toys on the activity mat.  the toys haven't changed since i was born.  i am starting to think shouty and milklady are poor.

this is a video of my best friend titus and i sitting on the couch at grandma basketlady's house.  titus is so small that in order for him to enjoy a sit i had to hold him up with my elbow.  what's an elbow.  shouty says i need to stop holding titus by the time we are ready for preschool.

this is me and titus on the boring activity mat.  it's boring.  in the video i suck on my best friend titus' fingers.  shouty says this s*** must end immediately but i like it and so does my best friend titus and i don't know what s*** is although he always it right after i potty and he makes milklady clean me.  he also says it when milklady does not have dinner on the table when he gets home.  i wonder if my best friend johnny likes it when my best friend ezra does it.

goodnight titus.
